More than 290 centers to support healthy eating and food access for families nationwide.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), recently announced $61 million in supplemental funding to expand nutrition services in over 290 Head Start programs. The funds are expected to benefit more than 100,000 children and families by improving access to healthy foods, expanding nutrition education, and upgrading food service infrastructure.
The department outlined that about half of the grants will be invested in equipment and supplies, such as garden tools and commercial kitchen appliances. A quarter of the funding will go toward facility upgrades and local food procurement, and the remainder toward staff training and family engagement.
“The response to this nutrition funding opportunity was tremendous, demonstrating the deep commitment Head Start programs have to children’s health and wellbeing,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary Laurie Todd-Smith for Early Childhood Development. “The early years are the most powerful window to shape lifelong habits, and this funding allows us to Make America Health Again when it matters the most: during the foundational years of child development.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Kennedy to seek God’s direction as he oversees the federal health department and all its agencies.
- For Deputy Assistant Secretary Todd-Smith as she implements the nutrition funding for Head Start programs.
